Balls and Chain
Wooden birds seem to peck on the roof of an old “smoker’s cabinet”, balls on a chain dangle from a pipe rack on the side. An elegant doll with a wig and a corset and a gorgeous brown satin skirt trimmed in apricot pensively gazes into the distance, past a door with a window and a lock and a key, a tiny thick new testament at her feet. In a drawer, hidden from view, on a swath of lace, lies a baby on a lace trimmed pillow, a bundle of silverware, and a step-on scale.
